Doctor Who Wednesdays #19

The Doctor: “No.”

Dalek: “Explain yourself.”

The Doctor: “I said no.”

Dalek: “What is the meaning it this negative?”

The Doctor: “It means no.”

Dalek: “But she will be destroyed.”

The Doctor: “No! ‘Cause this is what I’m going to do. I’m gonna rescue her. I’m gonna save Rose Tyler from the middle of the Dalek fleet, and then I’m gonna save the Earth. And then – just to finish off – I’m gonna wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky!

Dalek: “But you have no weapons. No defenses. No plan.”

The Doctor: “Yeah! And doesn’t that scare you to death.”

— Ninth Doctor, The Parting of the Ways

Okay, so this post was published without the intended explanation paragraph or two, as I was away and didn’t realize that we were at this point already (I know, I know, excuses, excuses). All that being said, I intend to fix that now.

First off, the next few months are going to be organized around specific Doctors. May will be dedicated to quotes from the Ninth Doctor, June will be quotes from the Tenth Doctor, July the Eleventh and August the Twelfth. I have not yet decided if I will dedicate a month to the Lost Regeneration/8.5 or not, since even though he had a number of great quotes, he only had one episode. We shall see.

Now for a comment on the quote itself. Strangely enough, this first installment of quotes from the Ninth Doctor is taken from his last episode – the episode that eventually sees Nine regenerate. For me, this episode came way too soon, just as I was starting to really realize how much I liked Nine. That being said, I do love the way they ended the Doctor’s Ninth Regeneration – I loved the new found confidence they gave him; the realization that he finally came to that, even though he was still fresh off the Time War, he could still make a difference and do good, even Fantastic, things. The realization that he was going to do something the Dalek’s thought impossible to rescue the friend who had taught him so much. He didn’t know how, he didn’t have a plan, but he was going to do it. Because he was the Doctor and that is what he did.

Keep Smiling!

    1. I love the episode where he’s all excited that everyone lives! I think I wrote a post on that one? It’s definitely one of my favourite episodes, and one of the episodes I frequently quote in defense of Nine.
