Doctor Who Wednesdays #17

Guess what?! Yes, that is right, you are getting two quotes again today. I actually considered three… but then decided I needed to save some for a later month.

[Doctor is discussing his face with a homeless man]
Barney: “I don’t like it.”
The Doctor: “What?”
Barney: “Your face.”
The Doctor: “Well I don’t like it either. I mean it’s alright up to the eyebrows. Then it just goes haywire. Look at the eyebrows! These are attack eyebrows. You could take bottle caps off with these.”
Barney: “They are mighty eyebrows indeed.”
The Doctor: “They’re cross. They’re crosser than the rest of my face. They’re independently cross! They probably want to cede from the rest of my face and set up their own independent state of eyebrows.”

— Twelfth Doctor, Deep Breath

I love that the way they addressed “The eyebrows” right in the first episode. From the moment Capaldi was announced, and the eyebrows appeared in the 50th Anniversary episode, there was discussion about the angry eyebrows.  And instead of just ignoring them, they addressed them right off the bat. They also addressed the fact that “this face” has appeared before, only the Doctor can’t quite remember where he got it from, or why he chose it. I have heard rumour that they will address the origin of the face question more thoroughly in the next season.

[After Clara gets off the phone with Eleven]

The Doctor: “He asked you a question. Will you help me?
Clara: “You shouldn’t have been listening.”
The Doctor: “I wasn’t, I didn’t need to. That was me talking. You can’t see me, can you? You look right at me and you can’t see. Do you have any idea what that’s like? I’m not on the phone, I’m right here. Standing in front of you. Please just… just see me.”

— Twelfth Doctor, Deep Breath

I heard some criticism about Clara’s reticence to accept the new Doctor was actually Doctor. And I would like to remind all of those people that Clara was the first companion since Rose to meet a second Doctor face. And when Rose first saw the Tenth Doctor she didn’t understand that he was the same – he had to convince her. And I really liked how they did it this time. Yes it was partially because i liked hearing and seeing Eleven again, but it was also because I love when they remind the audience that the New Doctor is still the same man, just changed.

Keep Smiling!
