“We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams; –
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.”
— Arthur O’Shaughnessy (1873)
Initially I couldn’t decide if Sunday would have a topic or would be a more miscellaneous day. That was when I landed on the title “Something about Sundays.” I liked the way it sounded. I have since decided that I will try to make Sunday a day for Poems, or segments of poems. I’m a bit worried I won’t be able to find enough poems – I’ve only ever read poetry in spurts. But I am going to enjoy the challenge of filling the weeks.
As poems can range in length I won’t always post the whole poem, but I will try to direct you to a site or book where you can read it for yourself. Like most things – it is important to understand the context.
You can find the poem in it’s entirety (to the best of my knowledge) here: http://en.m.wikisource.org/wiki/Ode_(O%27Shaughnessy)
